Yes, I still use DVD’s. Many wedding photographers have switched to the, VERY convenient, flash USB drives. I’ve decided to keep my packaging via DVD. I have a couple reasons that i’ve decided to keep it this way. For starters, I believe the DVD’s create a better “product” than the flash usb’s to receive in the mail. I’ve always been a sucker for cool packaging. A big factor in my choice to continue to use DVD’s is that you can print images right on the cover. I know… cheesy?! Well i like it and i know when i got my own wedding photo’s that i loved getting nice case + DVD’s. More importantly ( Geek facts coming up ) regular Flash USB’s and DVD’s are typically rated to last at least 10 years ( some USB sticks say it’s 10,000 cycles rather than a timeline ). I use Archival Printable DVD’s that are rated to last 50 years. While you should ALWAYS back you files up it’s great to know that the original DVD’s will continue to work long after many of your hard drives, flash drives and whatever media you use to store digital files.
Prints are probably the best way to share your beautiful pictures… but that’s a different post
If all this talk booorrress you here are some pictures of what all my wedding clients receive from me in the mail.
